    • The UTF-16 encoding recognizes a byte-order mark: the Unicode character \uFEFF.[1]
    • A byte-order mark is a standard sequence of bytes identifying the encoding type of the XML document. The XML parsers use this byte-order mark to determine the document encoding (such as Unicode).[2]
    • The unmarked forms (UTF-16, UTF-32) are big endian unless the data is preceded by a byte-order mark (FEFFh).[3]
